The widespread adoption of biocatalysis by industry to perform highly selective chemical syntheses has been made possible only the development effective methods in enzyme engineering overcome limitations naturally occurring enzymes. Through these we can adapt a broad range properties, including interactions between enzymes and their substrates cofactors robustness toward nonphysiological environments industrial processes, even introduce new nature reactivities. trend increased reaction complexity through deployment multienzyme cascades also encouraged design principles improve cascade performance accelerate development, spatial temporal compartmentalization via biocatalyst colocation immobilization. As building continues, it is becoming clear that be accelerated integrated multiscale are built around concepts standardization, modularity, abstraction.
